How Kelra handles your data.

The short version

• Kelra keeps your classes, due dates, grades and degree plan on your iPhone. You don't need an account to use it.
• If you make a free Kelra account, your Kelra data is backed up and synced through Google Firebase so it's on all your devices.
• Kelra Pro's AI features send the files, notes or questions you choose to Google's AI service to read or answer them.
• Kelra doesn't sell your data, show ads, or use advertising trackers.
• You can erase everything on your iPhone, and delete your account and its cloud copy, from Settings.

On your iPhone

Classes, due dates, scores, grades, notes, school calendar links, imported syllabi and your degree audit are stored on your device. Kelra's widgets read a copy of your upcoming classes and due dates on your device.

Kelra account and sync

An account is optional. You can sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a one-time code sent to your email. We receive your email address (or Apple's private relay address) and an account ID.

When you're signed in, your classes, due dates, grades, school calendar links and degree plan are stored in Google Cloud Firestore so they sync between your devices. Only you can read them. Syllabus files themselves stay on your device. Sign-in codes are emailed through Resend, and Kelra stores only a scrambled (hashed) copy of each code for 10 minutes.

Kelra Pro AI features

These only run when you use them:

• Syllabus, schedule and degree audit import: the file or photo you choose is sent to Google's AI service through Firebase to read your classes, due dates, policies and requirements. Before your first degree audit, Kelra asks for your permission.
• Grade import: the screenshots of your class’s grades page that you choose are sent to Google’s AI service to read your scores. Before your first one, Kelra asks for your permission. Kelra keeps only the scores, not the screenshots.
• Smart Add: the note you type, like “bio quiz Friday 9am,” is sent to Google's AI service to turn it into an event. Before first use, Kelra asks for your permission. Kelra keeps only the event.
• Ask Kelra: your question, with a summary of your classes, due dates, grades and degree progress, is sent to Google's AI service to answer it. If it offers a change, like adding a due date, saving a score or removing a class, the change is made on your device only after you tap to confirm. Kelra doesn't keep the conversation after you close it.
• School calendar sync: Kelra downloads the calendar link you add (from Canvas, Blackboard or Moodle) directly from your school. That link contains a private key, so keep it to yourself. If you remove a class, Kelra remembers its course code for about a term so sync doesn't add it back; when you're signed in, that list syncs with the rest of your data.

Google processes this content to provide the feature under its Firebase and Google Cloud terms. AI answers can be wrong, so check important dates with your syllabus or instructor.

To keep these features safe from abuse, Kelra uses Firebase App Check with Apple's App Attest, which confirms requests come from the real Kelra app.

Calendar and reminders

With your permission, Kelra adds your classes and due dates to their own calendars in Apple's Calendar app and reads your calendar to show your schedule. Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device.

Sharing

When you finish a semester or your degree, Kelra can make a celebration picture on your device. It shows your term or program, your school and stats like your GPA, but not your name. It goes only where you send it with the share sheet.

Purchases

Kelra Pro is bought and managed through Apple's App Store. Kelra never sees your payment details; Apple tells the app only whether your subscription is active.

Who handles your data

• Google Firebase and Google Cloud (accounts, sync, App Check, and the AI features), United States.
• Resend (sign-in code emails).
• Apple (Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases, App Attest).
• Cloudflare (hosts kelra.net and measures website visits without cookies).
• Google Fonts (kelra.net loads its fonts from Google, which sees your IP address when you visit).

Account data stays until you delete your account. Sign-in codes expire after 10 minutes.

Your choices

• Erase your data: Settings › Erase All Data removes everything Kelra stored on your iPhone (and your cloud copy if you're signed in).
• Delete your account: Settings › Account › Delete Account removes your account, its cloud copy, and the Kelra data on that iPhone.
• Calendar and notifications: you can turn these off any time in iOS Settings.
• You can ask for a copy of, or the deletion of, your account data by emailing [email protected].

Students under 13

Kelra is made for college students and isn't directed to children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 made an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
